Jammu: The Three -day 16th State Matsogi-Do championship concluded at Indoor Stadium in M A Stadium on Saturday Evening.
On the occasion, Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Choudhary Lal Singh was the Chief Guest.
Three-day Matsogi-Do championship was started on November 16, 2017 and concluded on Saturday. About 700 participants Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Kathua and Srinagar districts took part in the tournament. Samba district emerged as the winner of the tournament while Jammu was first runner up and Udhampur was the second runner up.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said the promotion of Matsogi-Do tournaments was important for the society. He said development of sports infrastructure has been flagged as an important component as it’s the priority of present government, adding that various steps have been initiated in this regard to upgrade the sports infrastructure in the state and boost the sports activities.
Choudhary Lal Singh said various stadia and playgrounds have been developed on modern lines for providing better facilities to the youth and that Government has devised an action plan under which the sports infrastructure in the State would be strengthened and upgraded.
The Minister said the Government has prepared a comprehensive plan for construction and upgradation of stadia and sports fields all around the State and that Government has made a policy under which every block in the State would be provided with both indoor and outdoor sports complexes.
Choudhary Lal Singh requested the parents to encourage the children for sports activities and advised them to play the game with sports spirit. He said co-curricular activities are essential for making the children physically and mentally fit. He appealed the students to participate in sports activities in a big way besides pursuing academic education.
