Sham asks for pro active approach towards water conservation

Jammu: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary Monday said water is necessary for life and it is the responsibility of every citizen to contribute in saving each and every drop of water so that its availability would be ensured for future generations.

The Minister was speaking at a function organized by Rotary Club Jammu Tawi in connection with its campaign ‘Save Water, Save Life’.

State Commissioner Bharat Scouts & Guide J&K, I D Soni, President, Rotary Club Jammu Tawi Jaswant Rai Gupta, Vice President Subhash Gandotra, Secretary Raman Sherpuri, other members of Rotary Club Jammu Tawi and Scouts & Guides were present on the occasion.

Speaking to the gathering, the Minister said water is important for the continuation of life on the earth and it should be used judiciously. ‘We even cannot imagine the life without water around us, so it is very important for all of us to play our individual role in saving it besides spreading awareness to others about the need of water conservation’, said Minister.

Addressing the Scouts & Guides present on the occasion, the Minister said to bring a positive change in the society, student’s role always remains high and they have the ability to spread awareness to others for its larger impact. He urged the student community to play their proactive participation in conservation of water and making others to join this movement.

He said water conservation awareness should be highly developed and promoted especially in the schools to aware children and as being educated citizens we should encourage everyone to join the water conscious community.

Sham Choudhary said PHE department is working hard to provide safe drinking water to all but on other side it is the responsibility of all to use it wisely. He also said department is regularly organizing awareness programs on the theme ‘Save Water’ and would work in this direction in future also.

The Minister also stressed on conservation and protection of water bodies and said water resources must be protected to prevent illness and to conserve water bodies for years to come.

On the occasion, a live demonstration was also given to the participating Scouts & Guides on how to wash hands properly to prevent themselves from various diseases.

The Minister also gave away financial assistance for distribution of uniforms to Scouts & Guides on the occasion. He thanked the Rotary Club for organizing such programs and contributing in this important cause.

Earlier, the Minister visited Govt High School Treva in R S Pura and inaugurated a additional class room being constructed by BSF 192 BN under BADP. This newly constructed class room would provide additional accommodation to the students.

Sham Choudhary interacted with students and enquired about the drinking water facility in the school.

The Minister along with BSF officers also planted a sapling in the premises of a forward post and interacted with BSF jawans.  He assured the BSF authorities that water issues being faced by the jawans would be resolved in a timely manner.
