New Delhi/Nov,10: Stone pelting in Kashmir has come down “to some extent” said Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat today. The army chief said that combined efforts of the Indian Army, BSF, CRPF, and the J&K Police has helped. “Solution to this can’t be achieved overnight. Government, intelligence agencies, state administration all are making efforts. Will be successful if things go in this direction, can say this with belief,” he added.
On the issue of conferring the country’s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna on independent India’s first army chief, Field Marshal General K M Cariappa, he said that the decision lies with the government of India.On November 4, the army chief had said that the time has also come to recommend Field Marshal Cariappa for the award of Bharat Ratna. If others can get it, I see no reason why he should not, a deserving personality for the same. We will shortly address the issue on priority. He was responding to a request by Col K C Subbayya from The Field Marshal Cariappa General Thimayya (FMCGT) forum about recommending the Bharat Ratna to Cariappa, who hails from Kodagu district in Karnataka.
