Dir Agri(K) for promoting organic farming

Srinagar: Director Agriculture Kashmir Altaf Aijaz Andrabi Monday held a meeting to review the progress of implementation of different State and centrally sponsored schemes and projects in all the districts of Kashmir division.

During the meeting, the Director was apprised with various activities carried out by the department at ground level. The meeting was informed that technical assistance is provided to the farmers by field functionaries for the sustainable development of agriculture and allied wings. The concerned officers informed the chair that the funds so-far released have been allocated judiciously and almost 100 percent expenditure of funds on the implementation of different schemes has been achieved.

The progress on the migration of bee colonies from Valley was also discussed during the meeting. The Director impressed upon the concerned that every technical support and guidance should be made available to the beekeepers and the farmers and the proceedings should be closely monitored.

The meeting also discussed the steps taken for the introduction and implementation of e-Governance and efforts for water harvesting amid the changing climatic conditions in the valley.

Speaking on the occasion the Director Agriculture Kashmir highlighted the importance to stand by the guidelines and quality of work during the execution and implementation of different schemes and projects. He asked the officers to come up with  innovative ideas and steps that after proper discussions and debates would be incorporated in the proposals for making the new plans for the betterment of the farming community.

The Director Agriculture called upon the concerned officers to adopt cluster villages as model villages for organic vegetable production so that vegetable farmers can fetch more prices for their produce. He asked the participating officers that the achievements made under different schemes should be showcased properly so that it can create an impact in the comprehensive development of agriculture sector.

He  also impressed for coordinated efforts and assured all the cooperation and assistance for the development of socio-economic status of the farming community.

Director Rakhs and Farms, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs/ Extension, Project Coordinator Mushrooms and all chief Agriculture officers of Kashmir Division were present at the meeting.
