Srinagar: Three militants and an Army soldier were killed in an encounter in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where a civilian was critically injured during clashes. Meanwhile, internet services have been suspended in Pulwama for security reasons.
Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia told UNI that following specific information about presence of militants at Kandi Aglar in Pulwama, Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police, Army and CRPF launched a joint search operation in the area.
However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons.
The security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.
“In the initial exchange of fire an Army jawan was killed,” he said, adding three militants were killed in the encounter. “Two AK-47 rifles and a pistol were recovered from the encounter site,” he said.
Confirming the development, Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid tonight said that three militants were killed in the encounter.
They said massive clashes erupted between security forces and protestors, who tried to break the security cordon and move towards the encounter site. “One civilian received a bullet on his chest during the clashes,” they said.
The injured was immediately taken to a local hospital from where he was referred to a hospital in Srinagar in a critical condition.
Two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness during an encounter that ensued at Samboora in Pulwama on November 2. Two Army soldiers and a JeM militant were killed in the encounter.
