Srinagar: In the ongoing State Football League, Accountant General’s (AG’s) XI defeated Iqbal Sports by a solitary goal in a Premier Division match at Synthetic Turf TRC on Friday (Nov 3).

Right from the start of the play, both the teams were determined to take an early lead and stamp their authority on the match. However, the defence lines of both the teams kept the forwards at bay. Despite getting several scoring chances, both the teams failed to take a lead in the first half.

After the break, AG’s XI changed the strategy and it paid immediate dividends when Waseem Makhdoomi managed to breach the defence lines of Iqbal Sports and score an all important goal for his team. After trailing by a goal, Iqbal Sports players launched several counter attacks on opposite goal post. However, every time they failed at the fininsh line. The last 10 minutes of the high voltage match saw players from both the teams attacking each others goal post frequently. However, when the referee blew the final whistle the score line read 1-0 in favour of AG’s team.

The quality and the speed of the football displayed by the two evenly matched teams enthralled large number of spectators, who had thronged the venue. Shahnawaz of AG’s XI was declared as payer of the match for his performance.
