Srinagar: Just a day after news circulated about the opening of liquor shop at Srinagar International Airport, the Excise department has written to Airport Authority of India, Srinagar refusing to grant permission for the same.
According to the order no EC/Exc/Misc/JKEL-2 /4549, dated 03-11-2017 which is directed to Director, AAI, Srinagar issued by Excise commissioner, Javed Khan states, “In continuation to this office letter No. EC/Exc/1249 dated 13-10-2017 whereunder you have been intimated that the J&K excise Department shall not grant Liquor license for opening of liquor shop/ vend at Srinagar International airport in violation of to the provisions of J&K excise Act, 1958 and liquor License and Sales Rules, 1984.”
The letter further reads as, “it is further intimated that opening of liquor vend/ shop at the international airport Srinagar will not be allowed/ permitted as such you may stop the process of any such proposal, as the Excise Department will not grant license required for opening of liquor vend/shop at the international airport.”
Meanwhile, Karwan-i-Islami Chairman Maulan Ghulam Rasool Hami has hailed the decision of Excise Department and has demanded that all the liquor shops should be closed in Srinagar city.
