Curtain Raiser event held for ‘U-19 Udaan Football Tournament-2017’

Kathua: To promote Football and potential players of the region, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Jammu, under its program ‘Samajik Chetna Abhiyaan’ is going to organize ‘U-19 Udaan Football Tournament-2017’ here from November 6 to November 26.

In this connection, a curtain raiser program was organized Friday at DPS, Rajbagh, Kathua where Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, Ch. Lal Singh was the chief guest.

Manu Sharma, wife of Martyr Sanjeet Kumar (President Police Medal recipient) was also present on the occasion.

The tournament will be organized in 2 phases. In the first phase matches would be held from November 6 to November 20 while the second phase would begin from Nov 21 to November 26.

Over 600 players are participating in the 21 day tournament during which 60 matches will be played.

In his address, Lal Singh said that this major sports event would provide opportunity to maximum number of potential youth to play Football and create a niche for them. “The event will help to stir up fervour among the local youth for football game and enable potential players to sharpen their skills”, added Singh.

He informed that cash prizes of Rs 50000, Rs 30000 and Rs 20000 will be awarded to the winner, runner up and second runner up teams, respectively.

Calling upon youth to participate in   sports activities, the Minister said that the proposed tournament is being organised to reach out to the communities,   encourage people’s participation, keep sportspersons in good spirit and inculcate spirit and healthy competition among them.

CCF Jammu, Farooq Gillani, SSP Kathua, Mohammad Suleman Choudhary, ACD, Rohit Khajuria, SDM Hiranagar, BDOs, DFOs, DYSSO, Commandant 66 BN SSB, DIG SSB Jammu, Principal, students and staff members were present on the occasion.
