Srinagar: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district youth president was killed by militants in south Kashmir district of Shopian.
Official sources said panic gripped Kellar in Shopian when some local saw throat-slit body of a man lying on a road on Thursday evening.
The locals immediately informed the police, they said, adding a team was rushed to the area and the body was taken away.
The deceased was later identified as BJP youth president of Shopian Gowhar Ahmad. “Preliminary investigation confirm that Gowhar’s throat was slit by militants and later his body was thrown on the road,” they added.
South Kashmir has witnessed a series of attacks on political workers in the last about a month. But, this is the first time that a member of BJP was killed by militants.
