Agri(J) inspects SM Farms at Chinore, Chakrohi

Jammu: Director Agriculture Jammu H. K. Razdan Thursday inspected the crop harvesting operations and crop stand at 836 acre Seed Multiplication Farm Chakrohi. He also reviewed the land preparation operations along with farm mechanization, drainage, irrigation channels taken for the ensuing Rabi Crop Season.

Quality production of Foundation and Certified Seed of Basmati varieties and other crops like Mustard, Wheat, Toria & Peas which are in the Basmati Rice rotation are being undertaken at both Chinore and Chakrohi far Interacting with the Farm Officers and staff,   Razdan said all efforts should be made to increase the seed production at the departmental farms to ensure the supply of seed produced in the local conditions with required quality parameters.

Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs), K. S. Sambyal apprised the Director about the   steps taken to improve the farm mechanization and water use efficiency, seed productivity and production at the Farm. During current Kharif-2017 season an area of 292 acres has been covered at Chakrohi which includes 168 acres under Basmati-370 (Foundation Seed), 40 acres under Basmati-370 (Breeder Seed), 14 acres under the variety SJR-5, 20 acres under Paddy Pusa-1121 (Breeder Seed) and 50 acres under Paddy Pusa-1121 (Foundation Seed).

Earlier the Director Agriculture along with team of officers inspected the harvesting and Land Preparation operations at the Seed Multiplication Farm Chinore. Razdan also interacted with the staff, technicians, Machinery Operators and workers of the farm and gave a patient hearing regarding their problems and difficulties due to border disturbances and listened to their grievances regarding service rules. He assured that their issues will be taken up with the government at an earliest.

Farm Manager SM Farm Chinore Narinder Mishra, Farm Manager SM Farm Chakrohi Ravinder Kapoor, Program Officer J. C Raina and other farm officers accompanied the Director during his visit.
