Jammu: Former Deputy Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and renowned National Conference (NC) leader Molvi Abdul Rashid passed away Saturday. He was 90.
Molvi Rashid, who was three-time MLA Banihal, breathed his last in Maligam village of Pogal Paristan in Banihal district of Jammu early Saturday.
He was a close associate of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and remained in jail for several years with him. In 2002, he won as an Independent candidate from Banihal after NC denied him the mandate.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Public Distribution Chowdhry Zulfikar have in their separate statements condoled the demised of Molvi Abdul Rashid
In her condolence message, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti recalled the contribution of the late leader in bringing Banihal area on the path of development and growth. “In his demise, the State has lost a selfless political leader who all his life fought for the people of far flung areas”, she said in her statement. Mehbooba Mufti has prayed for eternal solace to the departed soul and sympathized with the bereaved family.
Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Tribal Affairs Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali has also expressed grief over the sad demise of former Deputy Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Molvi Abdul Rashid. The Minister expressed sympathies with the bereaved family members and prayed to almighty for eternal peace to the departed leader.
In his message, Minister said Molvi Abdul Rashid contributed a lot for development of Jammu and Kashmir and especially people of Banihal. Paying tributes to Molvi Abdul Rashid, Zulfkar said he was a nice human being who always highlighted the issues of the people in Assembly. He said his contribution for uplift of the downtrodden people will be always remembered. The Minister expressed condolence with family members and prayed to Almighty to give them strength to bear this great loss.
