Vikramadatiya resignation row

The row over the resignation of Vikramadatiya Singh the estranged MLC of ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) triggered by the withdrawal of statement by senior PDP Minister Chowdhry Zulfikar Ali welcoming the resignation of the said legislator through KNS a local news gathering agency is throwing up lot of questions on the quantum of respect senior leaders in PDP get from the top brass. Looking at the resignation drama of Vikramadatiya Singh the standards of political morality demand an immediate direction from the party top brass to Vikramaditya Singh the estranged party MLC for mustering the courage to go public with his resignation letter on social networking sites face book and twitter. Not bothering to call for immediate an explanation from Vikramadatiya Singh for showing disrespect to inner party discipline, the PDP top brass obviously pushed to corner the senior party leader and a sitting Minister in the Mehbooba government Chowdhry Zulfikar Ali for withdrawing the statement in which he had mustered the courage to question the political credentials of Vikramditya Singh known for his poor showing on the ground in Jammu region. Chowdhry Zulfikar Ali in fact deserved all appreciations for having taken an exception to the random allegations of Vikramadatiya Singh against the party and conveyed the party’s displeasure to Vikramadatiya Singh for raising the questions which could only encourage the people of disintegrating tendencies propagating politics of communal and region divide in Jammu & Kashmir state. Unfortunate it is that party top brass as was evident from the refutal statement of Chowdhry Zulfikar Ali forced a senior minister and two time MLA to withdraw the statement against a dissident whose family is rooted in both Congress and BJP the two national level political parties.

Silencing the voices of dissent against dissidents is not encouraging for the PDP workers facing huge challenges of all forms and manifestations from all sides in fastly changing political scenario in Jammu & Kashmir state.

Though issuing a statement on the resignation of Vikramadatiya Singh without consulting the party president to whom the resignation letter has been addressed is a questionable action of Chowdhry Zulfikar Ali but more objectionable and questionable is the action of theVikramadatiya Singh who dared to post his resignation letter on social networking sites face book and twitter instead of forwarding it to the party president as party and Chairman Legislative Council as member Legislative Council . As the resignation drama of Vikramadatiya Singh shows that indiscipline is firming up roots in the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, it is for the party President Mehbooba Mufti to take urgent measures for curbing growing dissidence and address the issues of inner party democracy at all levels in the party. Silencing the voices of dissent against dissidents is not encouraging for the PDP workers facing huge challenges of all forms and manifestations from all sides in fastly changing political scenario in Jammu & Kashmir state.
