Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Friday called for a complete shutdown for today (Saturday) against the continuing braid-cutting incidents in Kashmir valley. Meanwhile the law enforcing authorities have announced restrictions in seven police station areas of Srinagar city and Kashmir University has announcement postponement of examinations that were scheduled to he held today.
Reports said that the JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik called for shutdown and appealed to the freedom-loving people to observe civil curfew tomorrow.
They said that the decision was taken following a meeting after Magrib (evening) prayers at the residence of Hurriyat (G) chairman in Hyderpora Thursday this week.
“In the meeting, the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir was discussed besides the braid cutting incidents and efforts to abrogate state subject laws,” they said.
The leadership has called the braid-cutting incidents as an “Indian ploy” to target women in Kashmir through “specially trained persons”.
They also appealed to the people not to thrash any suspects and “instead hand them over to Masjid committees”.
Meanwhile District Magistrate Srinagar has in an official press release said that restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC will remain in force under the jurisdiction of Police Stations Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, M R Gunj, Safakadal and partially in Kralkhud and Maisuma, in district Srinagar on October 21 (Saturday) as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.
The Kashmir University examinations has announced that all examinations scheduled to be held today on October 21, 2017 stand postponed. Fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately, later, the statement issued by Public Relations Office of the University said.
