Srinagar/Oct,20: Zainab Ali Khair-e-Aam Trust (ZAKAT), a Khrew-based charity organisation dedicated to the empowerment of weaker sections, on Friday announced to join hands with Srinagar-based Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) for the support and rehabilitation of pellet victims of Kashmir valley.
The VMS is a socio-medical organization dedicated to the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of physically and mentally challenged individuals.
A spokesperson of ZAKAT told Greater Kashmir that the trust had earlier raised a fund under the name “pellet victim relief fund” for the relief and rehabilitation of the pellet victims.
He said the trust has decided to give away significant contributions out of the fund to the VMS for the support, medical care and rehabilitation of the pellet victims of Kashmir.
The VMS, which runs Shafaqat Rehabilitation at Bemina in Srinagar will utilize the funds for the support, vocational training and rehabilitation of the pellet victims, he said.
He said the two organizations in this connection are organising a medical camp on October 21 at Shafaqat Rehabilitation Centre, for the pellet victims.
To add, in the wake of massive public uprising in 2016, hundreds of youth in Kashmir were hit by pellets fired by government forces to break up the public rallies. A large number of victims received eye injuries and many among them lost the eye sight.
