Rajouri: Continuing its efforts to protect consumers from unfair trade practices, Legal Metrology Department Monday realised a fine of Rupees one lakh from traders dealing with sale of cement.
To ascertain the veracity of several complaints of overcharging on cement and other violations of Legal Metrology (packaged commodities) Rules 2011, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, constituted a team of officers from Legal Metrology, Revenue, Labour and Police Departments.
The team conducted surprise raids on cement stores in the district and booked 4 traders for violating Legal Metrology Act and rules by indulging in anti-consumer practices. The traders were involved in overcharging from the consumers besides selling of cement bags without printed MRP.
The Assistant Controller further appealed the Consumers that in case of any complaint regarding the unfair trade practices adopted by any trader, approach the office of Assistant controller Legal Metrology for immediate redressal of their grievances.
