Islamabad/Oct,17: Pakistan has been elected as member to the United Nations Human Rights Council for term 2018-20, Radio Pakistan reported on Tuesday. The radio report while quoting Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson, said the nation secured more than two third majority votes during the elections held in New York.
“He said there were five candidates from the Asia Pacific region against four seats,” the report said.
“Pakistan’s membership to this Council demonstrates a strong vote of confidence of the international community in our role and contribution to the national and global human rights agenda,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying by the report. He said that Pakistan will continue to remain actively engaged with the Council, its processes and relevant stakeholders, both at home and abroad.
