Mehbooba directs early completion of Charar i Sharief projects

Srinagar: As a follow up to her visit last week, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti convened an inter Departmental meeting of officers to discuss and pace up the beautification of Charar i Sharief here Friday. She also reviewed the arrangements put in place by the administration for the coming urs of Hazrat Sheikh Noor ud Din Wali (R.A.).
Minister for Public Works, Naeem Akhtar and Vice Chairman, Wakf Board, Peer Muhammad Hussain were present in the meeting.
The Chief Minister directed immediate start of fencing work in the area and standardization of architectural pattern for the same. She also asked for devising a holistic drainage project for the town and its proper execution at the earliest.
Mehbooba Mufti laid stress on beautification of the shrine complex by developing more green spaces, adequate maintenance of rest rooms and creation of more parking space near the shrine. She also directed starting a plantation drive in and around the town which would not only stabilise the karewas in the area but also provide much more green cover to the shrine and adjoining areas.
The Chief Minister was informed that after her intervention by directing release of Rs. Two crore for completing the work on the shopping complex, the project would be completed in full within the shortest period.
Mehbooba Mufti asked the Minister for Public Works to visit the town at the earliest to assess more beautification and sanitation needs of Charar i Sharief and the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Noor ud Din Wali (R. A.), which she described as the fountainhead of tolerance, amity and brotherhood in Kashmir.
The Chief Minister directed designation of Deputy Commissioner, Budgam as the Project Authority for supervising the early completion of development projects of Charar i Sharief town. She directed adoption of an integrated approach for the completion and execution of developmental and beautification projects of the town.
Regarding the coming annual urs, the Chief Minister directed the Wakf Board authorities and District administration to make foolproof arrangements for the devotees. She directed completion of the face-lifting of the shrine complex on top priority before the urs.
Also the Chief Minister directed installation of more LED lamps for extra illumination at the shrine within a day’s time. Besides, she also directed the Urban Development Department to dispatch units of mobile toilets to the town for the urs days.
Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Rohit Kansal; Commissioner-Secretary, Housing & Urban Development, Hridesh Kumar; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan; Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, Haroon Malik; MD, JKPCC, Dileep Thusoo and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had visited Charar i Sharief during her Budgam tour on October 09 and directed release of Rs. Two crore for completion of work on the shopping complex besides pacing up other developmental works at the shrine and in the town.
