The team conducted extensive checking of business establishments particularly Sweets shops, Provisional stores, Dry fruit shops, Hardware and Cement stores, Bartan shops, and Bakery shops at main Bazar Samba, Vijaypur, Bari Brahamana, Nud and adjoining areas.
During inspection, more than 90 traders dealing in different trades were inspected for their compliance to the provisions of J&K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011 and Packages Commodities Rules.
The team booked 09 erring traders including sweet shops, Provisional stores, Karayana Shops and Hardware /Sanitary stores dealing with the Weights and Measures and charged a penalty of Rs 40600 from them.
The Departmental team urged all the traders to use only Weights and Measures duly verified and authenticated by the Legal Metrology Department and ensure that Maximum Retail Price (MRP),Date of packing(PKD), Net Contents and complete address of the Manufacturer/Packer and Customer care Number have been declared on the Commodities to be sold in package form. The Department also appealed the traders not to charge more than MRP declared on the Product.
