Pulwama: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militant who “carried out” the attack on the cavalcade of Works Minister Naeem Akhtar in Tral last month.
In a statement, issued here on Friday, police said that Gulzar Ahmad Dar, a JeM militant, was arrested last night in ajoint operation by police, 42 RR and 180 Bn CRPF in Naristan village of Tral.
A Chinese pistol, a magazine and live rounds were recovered from his possession, said the statement.
“Gulzar Ahmad joined the JeM outfit on 21 September after hurling a grenade upon the motorcade of R&B Minister (Naeem Akhtar) at Bus Stand Tral in which three civilians got killed and another 30 persons, including seven CRPF and two police personnel, got injured,” it said.
During sustained interrogation, the statement added, Gulzar Ahmad admitted that he hurled the grenade on the instructions of JeM commander Mufti Vikas.
“Just after lobbing the grenade, he went underground and joined JeM,” said the statement.
It said that Gulzar had previously remained active with the JeM and lobbed a grenade at Tral Bus Stand on December 5, 2014 as well. “Five civilians had lost their precious lives in the blast,” it said.
