Srinagar/Oct,11:Police on Wednesday said the militants killed in Hajin gunfight early morning were involved in the killing of off-duty BSF man Muhammad Ramzan Parrey.
Parrey was killed by gunmen on September 28. Four of his family members were injured in the shooting.
DIG North Kashmir, Virdhi Kumar Birdi told media persons during a press conference in Sumbal that the slain militants were involved in the killing of the BSF man.
He said that they were part of the Lashkar-e-Toiba militant group involved in several attacks on security forces and civilians in the area in recent past.
Two militants and two air force commandos were killed after the former opened fire on a joint team of police and army in Hajin area of the district.
“As the forces were closing in, the hiding militants fired upon them around 5 am, resulting in injuries to personnel of Garud Commando Force. Two of them succumbed later,” said an official.
He identified the deceased commandos as Cpl Neelesh Nayan and Sgt Milind Khabar.
He said the commandos were operating with the army for operational experience and training.
The militants were identified as Abu Bakr @Ali Baba and Nasrullah Mir, son of Nazir Ahmad Mir, resident of Hajin. Both belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit, he said.
