Udhampur: A five day sports festival organised by District Police Udhampur under Civic action program took off here Monday at District Police Lines (DPL).
Deputy Inspector General of Police Udhampur- Reasi Range Virender Sharma was the chief guest and formally inaugurated the sports festival 2017.
The Festival began with T-20 cricket tournament after the inaugural function.
Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Ravinder Kumar was the guest of honour on the occasion.
The chief guest complimented the organizers for holding this tournament and said such type of events provide a platform to potential youth to explore their hidden talent and keep them away from drug abuse. He said sports activities help the youth to channelize their energy in a positive way. He said the sports festival oragnised under CAP aims at to strengthen Police-Public relations. He further added that Police would organize more such programs under Civic action in future to encourage youth to take part is sports.
Earlier, SSP Udhampur Rayees Bhat, the host of the tournament, presented welcome address and briefed about the competitions to be held during the dive day festival. He disclosed that around 1264 players will participate in 218 competitions which apart from T-20 cricket tournament would witness Football, Volley Ball, Hand ball, Kabaddi, Tug of war, Karate/Wushu, Kho kho, Badminton, & other Athletic events.
Among others present at the inaugural function were Additional SP Udhampur, Faisal Qureshi, besides officers of civil departments, prominent citizens and youths in large number.
