Srinagar: Holding the additional charge of PHE Division Shopian after his transfer to Budgam division two and half months back, the Executive Engineeer Gh Ahmed Beig has come under the scanner of PHE Minister Chowddhry Sham Lal on charges of enforcing scandalous allotments of works in PHE sub Division Tahab. Worth mentioning is the government’s unprecedented failure in sending a replacement to Beig at PHE Division Shopian since last two months and with this government has overtly and covertly allowed Beig to hold the charge of three district as PHE Division Shopian comprises two districts,i.e, Shopian and Pulwama. However PHE Minister Chowdhry Sham claims to have put the Executive Engineer on notice and says that a proposal for his replacement at PHE Division Shopian has been delayed due to the recent transfer of Commissioner/Secretary PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control.
Top informed sources disclosed that Saturday last week dozens of contractors staged massive demonstration at PHE Divison office Shopian and PHE sub division Tahab forcing the Xen PHE Division Shopian to direct his technical officer at PHE Division Shopian to cancel the illegal tender notice issued for 25 works for various water supply schemes of PHE sub division Tahab. The works to the tune of 67.88 lacs were issued with the intent of distributing the work among only four blue eyed contractors under the instructions of Xen PHE division Shopian by AEE Habibullah Mir and Junior Engineer Mohammad Shafi Teli against whom the General Administration Department (GAD) has under government order no: 14/GAD/Vigilance/2017; Dated: 22-02-2017 accorded sanction of prosecution in a case of misappropriation of funds under FIR.NO :04 of 2009, P/S VoK Srinagar.
PHE Minister Sham Lal Chowdhry when contacted said “We have already put Beig on the transfer list and allegedly his claim of being proposed for posting at PHE Division Bijbehara is totally baseless. We will get all the allegations including those related to cancellation of tenders for some works at PHE Sub division Tahab investigated within short span of time. We won’t allow wrong doers to build up any nexus for corrupt practices. The engineers indicted by State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) will have to face actions as warranted under rules. I will inquire all about the doubtful actions and take strong action against all those found guilty” .
