Srinagar: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju was Saturday briefed about the security situation in Kashmir, where braid chopping incidents are reported almost daily for the past about a month.
Rijiju, who arrived here on a two-day visit to Kashmir, was also informed about recent fidayeen attack on a BSF camp near Srinagar International Airport.
Rijiju will attend a music concert by famous singer-composer Adnan Sami today on the banks of picturesque Dal Lake. The concert is being organised jointly by his ministry and the Jammu and Kashmir government to promote tourism and Kashmiri culture in the valley.
A BSF spokesperson said that Mr Rijiju arrived in this summer capital at 0835 hrs on a two-day visit to Kashmir.
“The Union Minister was received by BSF Inspector General (IG), Kashmir Frontier, Sonali Mishra,” he said.
After Guard of Honour, he said the minister was briefed about prevailing situation in Kashmir and also about the suicidal attack by militants on October 3, at BSF Campus Gogoland, (Humhama).
Mr Rijiju, applauded the professionalism of BSF troops, who efficiently eliminated the three militants without causing any collateral damage and at the same time minimal damage was caused to BSF. A BSF jawan was also killed in the attack.
The minister also commended the overall performance of BSF for effectively defending borders of India against Pakistan and Bangladesh and admired the legacy of the Force.
He also interacted with officers and subordinate officers at Frontier Headquarter; also he met and appreciated the courage of brave Force personnel who bravely faced the militants and neutralized them.
The visit of Rijuju comes at a time when Kashmir is on boil against the more than three dozen incidents of braid chopping.
