GST awareness camp held at Anantnag

Anantnag: An awareness camp regarding understanding the nitty-gritty of Goods and Service Tax was Friday held at Dak Bunglow, Khanabal.

Deputy Commissioner Anantnag,  Mohammad Younis Malik was the chief guest on the occasion.

General Manager, District Industries Centre, resource persons of Commissioner Commercial Taxes Department Srinagar, other officers of Commercial Taxes Department, Khidmat Centre/CIC operators and traders and also present on the occasion.

The awareness camp was organised by Commercial Taxes Department. The officers of Commercial Taxes Department spoke to the traders on different aspects of the new tax regime.

While speaking on the occasion, the District Development Commissioner said the Department need to solve the technical issues which have cropped up since the GST implementation because of misinformation. He said the government will reach out to every stakeholder so as to build the confidence among the manufacturers and traders.

The DDC exhorted the officers of Commercial Taxes Department to ensure the implementation of GST regime at the ground level so that genuine traders do not face any difficulty.

Meanwhile, he directed for organising the camps in a decentralised way so that traders are educated about the scheme in a better way.

Regarding the issue of abolishing of toll tax, it was given out that the purpose of toll tax is to boost the local industry.

The guest faculty spoke on different aspects of the tax regime including registration, return filing and payment. It was informed that traders can file the returns in two modes i.e., online mode and offline mode. Offline mode has been envisaged to file details in case there is no internet facility.

The new system aims at ease of doing business whereby everything from registration to filing of returns to payment of taxes has to be done online.

With respect to the payment system, it was informed that payments upto Rs 10000 can be made through over the counter (OTC) mode and above it through online mode.

The officers of Commercial Taxes apprised the dealers about the mechanism of taxation on existing stocks.
