Demolition drive against illegal structures across Srinagar from Oct 7: Div Com(K)

Srinagar: In order to clear the encroachments and illegal constructions in Srinagar, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan Friday convened a meeting to review the preparedness of demolition drive which will start from tomorrow.

DIG Central, VC LAWDA, VC SDA, Commissioner SMC, Director Local Bodies, Deputy Director Planning, Engineers of PWD & I&FC, Assistant Commissioner (Nazool) and other concerned officers were present in this meeting.

Divisional Commissioner directed SMC, SDA, LAWDA and I&FC to remove illegal constructions and encroachments across the city as well as in the Dal Lake, Jhelum river and other water bodies from tomorrow and book the violators immediately as per the law.

Khan directed police to provide adequate security to the Demolition-Squad. Besides, DC Srinagar will provide magistrates along with the squad on daily basis. DC Srinagar will also provide report about the Kahchari and conversion land so that encroachments from Kahchari land will be removed immediately and conversion of agriculture land is stopped.

He also directed the officers to film all demolition drives on daily basis and sends the coverage to the Information Department daily for wide publicity and also send CDs with compliance report to the Divisional Commissioner’s office on daily basis.

Divisional Commissioner also directed all Deputy Commissioners of the Valley including Leh & Kargil to implement the order of blanket ban imposed on any kind of construction along the National Highway with periphery of 100 meters on either side in letter and spirit, which has been declared No-Construction Zone.

He asked them to personally look into the matter and immediately remove the illegal constructions adjacent to the National Highway besides initiating action against the violators.

Div Com warned people not to indulge in illegal construction activities and encroachments. He said violators will be dealt according to the law.
