Pawan Kotwal reviews treatment facilities for dengue, H1N1 patients at Jmu

Jammu: Principal Secretary Health and Medical Education, Dr Pawan Kotwal Thursday directed for strengthening treatment facilities and patient care in the government hospitals for persons with dengue and H1N1 sympto

He issued these instructions while chairing a meeting to review the preparedness for dealing with dengue and H1N1 swine flu cases here at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H).

The meeting was attended by senior functionaries of health department, GMC&H and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC),

Dr Kotwal directed the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to form special squads for carrying out cleanliness drive and fogging in the areas from where maximum dengue cases are being reported. Fumigation and cleaning of drains should be done regularly to prevent and control spread of vector borne virus, he added.

Directing for strengthening the dedicated additional wards for dengue patients, Dr Kotwal directed GMC authorities to spare more beds and rooms for the suspected Dengue and NI HI patients. He said the test reports should be provided to the doctors immediately to start the treatment without any delay. Patients should be given free medicines and other essential material from the hospital, he directed.

Stressing on the personal health of the staff dealing with H1N1 swine flu cases, Dr Kotwal said doctors and paramedical staff should be provided with vaccines and personal protection kits for their personal safety.

He called for identifying Diagnostic laboratories that conduct H1N1 test and display a list of these labs in the hospital premises. An advisory should be issued for creating awareness among the general masses about the Dos and Don’ts for keeping themselves away from the diseases.

He further said market survey should be conducted to ascertain whether the chemist shops have essential drug, Oseltamivir available with them and district hospitals should also inform about the availability of the medicine with them. He urged the general public to immediately contact on toll free number-102 if they feel any symptom of H1N1 swine flu.

The meeting was attended by Principal, Govt Medical College, Jammu Dr Sunanda Raina, Medical Superintendent, GMC&H Dr Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital Dr Raj Kumar Sangra, Mission Director, National Health Mission Dr Mohan Singh, HoDs, faculty members and officers of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
