Separatists have unleashed a never ending campaign against muslims in hindu dominated districts of Jammu region. Adding one more demand to the long list of demands for eviction of muslims BJP while sticking to its decades old policy of political double standards during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday this week sought the eviction of Gujjar muslims from hindu dominated Samba and Jammu districts of the Jammu region to further its cause of religious polarization in the party strongholds. Reaction as expected came from the PDP Gujjar leader and incumbent Minister for Consumer Affairs, Civil Supplies and Information who mustered the courage to tell the BJP Minister holding the portfolio of Industries and Commerce in Mehbooba ministry at his face he won’t allow the eviction of Gujjar muslims from the Samba and Jammu districts on any cost. Ironically the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh himself in news for wrong reasons over the endorsement of the demand of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat for abrogation of all legislations giving special status to Jammu & Kashmir supported his party’s minister Ganga on demanding eviction of Gujjar muslim from hindu dominated Samba and Jammu districts.Ironically Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti dared to utter even a single word to support his minister Chowdry Zulfikar Ali during a heated brawl with the BJP Minister Chander Prakash Ganga. Perhaps Mehbooba is yet to recall the highly controversial remarks of Chander Prakash Ganga over the killing of unarmed youth in crowd control policing during unrest last year. Mehbooba Mufti the Chief Minister of the only muslim majority state of the country has to be reminded that the same BJP Minister Chander Prakash Ganga has last year said “Stone pelting youth need to be dealt with bullets in Kashmirb valley”. Though last year Chander Prakash Ganga had withdrawn his statement over the killing of youth with bullets during street protests in Kashmir valley but this time he has demanded eviction of the Gujjar muslims from two hindu dominated districts of Samba and Jammu during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti her.
The sooner the Chief Minister seeks explanation from the BJP from Chander Prakash Ganga over his demand for eviction of Gujjar muslims from hindu dominated Samba and Jammu districts, the better it would be for the stabilization of religious harmony, peace and political stability of Jammu & Kashmir state.
At least Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti could have told the BJP minister that an elected representative demanding eviction of the bonafide residents of one or the other district is unbecoming of a legislator. As lawmakers themselves known state subjects in Jammu & Kashmir can’t be forced to evict from one district by a popular government or a dispensation controlled and commander by the governor in the wake of an emergency like situation developing in the aftermath of the fall of an elected government. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti being the custodian of the rights of all the bonafide state subjects of Jammu & Kashmir owes an explanation to the people of the statement over her silence on Chander Prakash Ganga’s highly objectionable remarks in a highly hostile political atmosphere in the state.
