Innovative measures must for better water mgmt: Basharat

Anantnag: Minister for Horticulture, Syed Basharat Bukhari Thursday called for taking innovative and sustainable measures for better water management in the State to utilize maximum possible benefits from existing water resources and to improve irrigation and water supply infrastructure.

The Minister said this while chairing a meeting to review the progress on developmental works under various sectors in Anantnag district. Vice Chairman Horticulture Development Board, Abul Salam Reshi accompanied the Minister.

District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik briefed the Minister regarding the progress on various developmental works under various sectors. The Minister was informed that work on Rambirpora–Kehribal Water Supply Scheme with an estimated cost of Rs. 21.71 crore is in progress and will be completed within the stipulated time.

It was said filtration plant of Rs. 2.29 crore WSS High Ground having 1 MGD capacity is in progress and the scheme will cater to the needs of Kashmir University South Campus and Army camp located at High Ground.

Bukhari was also apprised about the status of various Waster Supply Schemes (WSS) catering the district including WSS Prakashpora, WSS Papyabal WSS Anichek, WSS Anantnag Town,WSS Sarnal, WSS Sarnal Bala – Anchidora, WSS Donipawa, WSS Krangsoo Old, WSS Dialgam, WSS Bona Dialgam, Utrsoo – Najigund, WSS, Pethbugh and WSS Seepan.

He was also informed about the progress of work on Rs 1.15 crore Ganie Kul and need of renovation works on Martand Kanal, Muniward Kanal, Hanji Dantar Khul and Mirgund Ladi Pehru Kanal.

The Minister was also briefed about functioning of Dialgam receiving which regularly face overloading issues.

Keeping in view frequent water-logging during rainy season in Anantnag, the Minister directed the concerned to identify the vulnerable places, besides carrying out de-slitting and urgent repairs of Kanals in the district.

He assured the district administration that all the genuine issues would be looked into and addressed on priory.

Bukhari stressed the officers to speed up the pace of work on all ongoing works for their time-bound completion.

ADC Anantnag, Executive Engineers of PHE, PDD, Irrigation & Flood Control and various other administrative officers were present in the meeting.
