Srinagar: Minister for Public Works, Naeem Akhtar Thursday chaired a meeting at Council Secretariat, Leh to review the progress of various ongoing development works under AMRUT, PMDP, NABARD, CRF, Tribal Sub Plan and PMGSY in the district.

The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Leh, Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo, Executive Councillors Dorjey  Motup, Tsering Wangdus, Mumtaz Hussain and Executive Engineers of different agencies headed by Deputy Commissioner Leh, Avny Lavasa and SE PWD, Tashi Chombel.

Reviewing the progress of projects being executed by different agencies under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) in Leh town, the Minister was informed that a total of Rs. 42.5 crore have been sanctioned for these seven projects. While under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) projects worth Rs 15 crore have been approved for permanent restoration of infrastructure damaged due to Phuktal river burst in 2015, the meeting was told.

The Minister took a strong note of slow pace and poor progress of works under AMRUT and PMDP and directed all the executing agencies to redouble their efforts to ensure judicious use of funds and time-bound completion of set targets.

He directed DC Leh to monitor the progress of development works and ensure to implement a bar chart including timeline for tendering, material flow chart and fix dateline for completion of all the projects. He also set deadlines for completion of all the projects and instructed LAHDC Leh and DC Leh to personally oversee the progress of the works for their speedy completion.

Meanwhile, Naeem Akhtar appreciated LAHDC Leh for ongoing macadamization of roads in Leh. It was said out of 108-kilometre target, a total of 72 km road was macadamized till date. The Minister said road macadamization fund is a non-lapsable funds and flow of funds will continue in future fiscals as well. He also appreciated executing agencies for good progress in construction of CRF roads in the district.

CEC Dr Dawa briefed the Minister in detail about the ongoing projects in Leh and sought additional funds for various development projects.

Responding to the traffic regulation issues in Leh, the Minister said he would take the issue with the Chief Minister so that a unit of traffic police could be deployed in Leh during summer months.
