World Rabies Day-2017 commemorated at GMC

Srinagar: The World Rabies Day 2017 was commemorated at Government Medical College which was organized by Department of Community Medicine and National Service Scheme under the theme ‘Continuing Medical Education on Rabies Prevention – a Current Perspective’.

On the occasion, a pledge was taken to create mass awareness about the deadly disease across Kashmir division.

The day’s theme set the goal of reaching zero to 30 i.e. zero human death from canine rabies by the year 2030. To mark the occasion documentaries regarding rabies, clips of patients and presentations were presented before audience. The speeches were also delivered by chief guest present on the occasion.

The event was attended by Principal Government Medical College, Dr Samia Rashid, Director Health Services, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, Director Information and Public Relations, Muneer-ul-Islam, Director Radio Kashmir, Himayun Qaiser,

On this occasion the speakers said a mass awareness should be created about Rabies to bring an end to the death caused by animal bites.

During a presentation, it was informed that till September this year 11441 cases of rabies have been registered at GMC.

Director Health Services said over the years the case of Rabies has drastically shot up. He said concerted efforts should be worked out to find a practical solution to the problem.

Himayun Qaiser, while delivering a talk said media has to play an active role in creating awareness about Rabies in Kashmir and all this can be achieved while working in coordination.

Director Information and Public Relations, Muneer-ul-Islam remarked that Kashmiri’s waste a lot of food on the occasion of marriages etc and for the proper waste management of the same, there should be coordination between concerned agencies.

Later, mementos were distributed among the guests and vote of thanks was presented.
