LMD Samba recovers Rs 1.27 lakh as penalty

Samba: The Legal Metrology Department has recovered Rs 1.27 lakh as penalty during series of market inspections conducted in the current month.

As per an official spokesperson, to check unfair trade practices during the Navratras festival, the team  headed by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba, Ajay Kumar Verma, along with other staff members conducted extensive checking of business establishments at Bari Brahmana, Jatwal, Swankha  Morh, Vijaypur, Barjani,  Ghagwal, Rajpura , Shri Chichi Mata Temple and adjoining  areas.

The team inspected Industrial units, Provisional stores, Karyana shops, Sweet Shops, Welding works, Hardware stores, General Stores, Bakery units, Flour and Rice Mills.  The team also inspected temporary stalls of eatables and Prasad installed at different religious places in view of Navratras festival.

In all 27 business establishments were challaned for violation of Legal metrology Laws and Rules. The Department booked two flour mills for packing less quantity in the net 10 Kg bag  and for non declaration of date of packaging. The Department also booked a paint Industry, Chocolate Powder Industry and Insecticides units at Bari Brahmna for violating the labelling norms. The Department also seized the Packages of flour being used during fast of Navratas festival, Rose Sarbat, superfine synthetic Vinegar, Poha, Water pump, Desi Ghee at Supwal, Vijaypur and Jatwal respectively and issued Challans  for not mentioning all the mandatory declarations  by the product manufacturers .

After series of correspondences with the Company representatives and on their request and assurance not to repeat the fault in future, 20 Challans of the Booked traders were compounded and a penalty of Rs 1.275 Lakh was imposed on them, while notices were issued to the remaining traders for attending the office of the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba for further Legal proceedings.
