Reasi: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu Friday concluded four day long vocational training program on “Entrepreneurship Development in Floriculture” here at village Kanjli.

The program was attended by a large number of trainees who were rigorously trained by the KVK experts on the technical know-how about the commercial floriculture.

The major objective of the program was to boost the floriculture industry in this hilly district and to provide technical assistance to the farmers for better results of the floriculture crops. Various theoretical and technical sessions were arranged in the program.

Addressing the concluding ceremony of the event Scientist and Head of KVK Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal, said floriculture is gaining momentum in the district and is proving a good means of earning profit. In his speech he urged the farmers to take up commercial floriculture as an enterprise which can enable them to earn 4-5 times more profit as compared to other crops.

He said floriculture crops such as marigold, gladiolus, rose, gerbera and chrysanthemum are the alternate crops for the area and there is ample market availability of these crops at both Katra and Jammu. He added that the farmers can fetch more prices by the adoption of advance technologies in floriculture.

The farmers were also educated for the scientific cultivation of marigold, gladiolus and rose. He demonstrated the nursery raising techniques in marigold and elaborated Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) in marigold.

Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi elaborated on the diseases and insect-pests management in floriculture crops and also highlighted the protected cultivation of flowers besides encouraging the farmers to have low cost polyhouse units at their farms so that they can get more yield of flowers throughout the year.
