Def Minister Nirmala Sitharaman begins her 2 day visit from Srinagar

Srinagar/Sept,20: Nirmala Sitharaman the first Defence Minister of the country arrived here on Friday on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir to take stock of the security situation on the borders dividing two parts of the state one controlled by India and the other by Pakistan.
This was the first visit of Ms Sitharaman as Defence minister of the country early this month.
The visit come at a time when Pakistani troops are violating 2003 ceasefire almost daily, particularly in Jammu region and attempts are being made from Pak Administered Kashmir (PaK) to send trained militants into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall.
A large number of militants are waiting at launch pads to sneak into this side. Security forces, however, failed a number of infiltration attempts and killed about a dozen militants during the past one month near Line of Control (LoC).
Defence sources said that Ms Sitharaman, accompanied by Army chief General Bipin Rawat, is visiting some forward posts in north Kashmir.
Immediately after arriving here she was given a detailed brief about the overall security situation in the valley and on the borders.
She was told about the measures taken to prevent cross over attempts from Pak Administered Kashmir (PaK).
