Srinagar: A ten-year-old student was found unconscious with a chopped braid in Bandipora district of north Kashmir on Thursday.
Ifat Farooq of fifth standard was found unconscious with her braid chopped off on the veranda of her house in Nathpora village of the district.
“She had returned home after school around 4 pm when some burqa-clad person caught hold of her in the lawn of our house. She was alone at that time. When I returned home from the paddy field, I found my daughter unconscious on the veranda. When I picked her up I saw her hair chopped off,” said her father Farooq Ahmed Wani.
He said that Ifat regained consciousness after I sprinkled water on her face.
“Then she narrated the whole incident,” said Wani.
Two incidents of braid chopping have been reported from Budgam district since last night while over a dozen cases have taken place in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. Thursday this week, locals in Chimmer village of Kulgam accused the army of coming to the aid of a braid chopper apprehended by them.
