Srinagar: The services of Special Police Officer (SPO) have been regularized in the Jammu and Kashmir police for his presence of mind and bravery act when he saved the lives of over 15 security personnel after a militant hurled a hand grenade at Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla Sunday last.
A militant hurled a hand grenade inside a security force vehicle at main chowk Sopore Sunday last. However, a SPO Aquib without caring for his life immediately throw the grenade outside the vehicle in which over 15 CRPF and police personnel were travelling.
Two SPOs, including Aquib and a CRPF jawan besides four civilians received minor splinter injuries.
The daredevil act of SPO was highly appreciated by senior officers besides former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Mr Abdullah taking to micro-blogging site Tweeter said “ This brave SPO should be rewarded for his presence of mind by immediately regularising him in @JmuKmrPolice cc @spvaid”.
In reply to tweet of working president of the main opposition National Conference (NC) Mr Abdullah “ Directror General of Police (DG) Dr S P Vaid said “ I have issued instructions for this SPO’s absorption in @JmuKmrPolice who saved many precious lives by exhibiting alterness.”
“That’s very good to know DG Sahib. My compliments to you. This will go a long way towards boosting morale further amongst the SPOs”, Mr Abdullah tweeted.
“Alert SPO throws away grenade to safer place which was hurled inside SF vehicle thus saving lives of dozen police,CRPF & Civilians.@spvaid”, police said in a tweet.
