Litmus tests for Mehbooba

After last year unrest the biggest challenge for Mehbooba Mufti is to win over the support of BJP commanding and controlling the central government against the petitions filed to challenge Article 35 A governing rights acts in the supreme court of the country. The central government’s support over the legal battle against the petitions filed to challenge Article 35 A, the key legislation governing property rights act in Jammu Kashmir, is the biggest challenge for Mehbooba Mufti to ward off criticism from both the mainstream opposition and the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani the Hurriyat (G) Chairman over her party’s alliance with ally BJP reiterating commitment on scraping article 370, article 35 A and all other legislation related to special status of the state under Indian constitution. Since the Mehbooba Mufti led PDP has extended full support to Modi led BJP government at the centre in extending article 101 of the Indian constitution for implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state, the support of BJP against the petitions filed in the supreme court of the country is by all standards of political understandabilities an issue of survival for Mehbooba led PDP in future. As Mehbooba Mufti is facing a huge challenge to prove her political credential credentials and score points over her political rivals over the widely questionable and objectionable alliance with the BJP. Wining over the support of BJP against the petitions filed in the supreme court is a golden opportunity for Mehbooba Mufti prove her political rivals and as well as critics wrong.

Keeping in view the bitter experiences of last two and a half years working of the PDP BJP alliance even naives in Kashmir don’t believe that BJP would be generous enough to extend its support to Mehbooba led PDP against the petitions filed against article 35 A in the supreme court of the country.

All depends on the political capacity of Mehbooba Mufti to win over the support of BJP on a contentious sensitive issue like Article 35 A success of Mehbooba to prevail upon the BJP top brass over this issue by all means will determine the future of political prospects of PDP . While running a coalition of extremely divergent ideologies Mehbooba Mufti has the disadvantage of facing the stiff opposition to BJP authoritarian RSS top brass on Modi government’s responses to petitions filed against Art 35 A. Keeping in view the bitter experiences of last two and a half years working of the PDP BJP alliance even naives in Kashmir don’t believe that BJP would be generous enough to extend its support to Mehbooba led PDP against the petitions filed against article 35 A in the supreme court of the country.
