Dorjay, Mir Zahoor take stock of cooperative activities in Anantnag

Anantnag: Minister for Cooperative and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjay and Minister of State for Forest, Environment, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and Cooperative, Mir Zahoor Ahmad Thursday visited district Anantnag and took stock of the activities carried by the Cooperative Department including Cooperative Bank Branches in the district.

During the visit, the Ministers took review in an Officers meeting held at Dak Bungalow.

The District Development Commissioner, Anantnag Fayaz Ahmad gave power point presentation and briefed the meeting about the functioning of Cooperative Department and Cooperative Bank Branches in the district.

It was informed in the meeting that last year the registered business target of Cooperative societies was Rs 12.18 crore and during current financial year the target was Rs 4.5 crore.

It was also informed that there are 55 functional Cooperative Societies including Cooperative banks, Consumer store (Super Bazaar), cooperative marketing societies, etc. Officials said Anantnag Central Cooperative Bank has played a vital role in consolidating the agro-based economy of the District.

Addressing the meeting, the Minister for Cooperatives asked the concerned officials to conduct elections of Cooperative Societies in the district in November, 2017. He said women folk can also play a vital role on the day to day earnings through Cooperative Societies and push them to earn more through these Societies.

Later, the Minister visited Ashajipora and inspected the JAKFED land property there.

On the occasion, the JAKFED authorities briefed the Ministers about the asset of the cooperatives. The Ministers asked them to utilize the resources in proper way so that the land is used to make the JAKFED business unit a profitable and successful.

Highlighting the involvement of youth with the cooperative movement, the Minister for Cooperative Dorjay asked the members of the cooperative societies to make efforts that youth are taking part in making defunct societies functional as they can earn their livelihood through these societies.

He further asked the officials to work with utmost dedication to make the Cooperative Business units profitable and successful. He said Government is serious to strengthen these units by providing adequate infrastructure and other facilities required for running these centers.

While interacting with the staff, the Minister of State for Cooperative Mir Zahoor underscored the need for wide publicity of the benefits given to the customers on account of sale of goods through print and electronic media. He said the people are not fully aware about the benefits being provided by the Cooperative Business units and it is essential to aware general masses about it.

A team of Senior Officers of Cooperative Department including Secretary Cooperative Societies J&K, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Registrar Cooperative Societies J&K Peerzada hafizullah and district administration accompanied the Minister during their tour.
