State level Khadi Exhibition concludes at Leh

Leh: Ten day state level Khadi exhibition organized by J&K Khadi & Village Industries Board in collaboration with Khadi & Village Industries Commission concluded at Leh with a valedictory function Tuesday.

Organized for the first time in Leh, the state level exhibition recorded about Rs. 50 lacs sale in the exhibition. Besides, different local Ladakhi units, large number of Prime Minister Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) supported units of Kashmir, Jammu and Kargil also participated in the exhibition.

Vice Chairmen Jammu & Kashmir Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB) Mansoor Hussain Soharwardy was chief guest on the occasion while as Executive Councilor for Industries Dorjey Motup, Member North Zone KVIC,   Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat, Secretary/ CEO KVIB Raashid Ahmad Qadari and Deputy Commissioner Leh Avny Lavasa were guests of honour on the occasion. Other prominent present on the occasion were GM DIC, Leh Urgain Lundup, Assistant Director KVIC Kashmir Division Anil Kumar, district level officers and officials of KVIB and KVIC.

Addressing the valedictory function Vice Chairmen KVIB Mansoor Hussain Soharwardy said Leh is a unique place on top of the world which can’t be compared with other places and well cultured and honest people of Ladakh makes this place more exclusive.

Underlining the aims and objectives of KVIB which is for handholding of rural youths towards entrepreneurship, Soharwardy said since Govt jobs are limited, and as such, the youth of J&K State must accept this reality and go for entrepreneurship which will not only provide dignified job for individuals but will creates ample jobs for others also.

Speaking very high about the role of women in Ladakhi society, Soharwardy said at present Rs. 25 lacs is the maximum limit under KVIB schemes to establish various types of units and considering the increasing cost factors GoI is likely to increase this limit up to Rs. 60 lacs soon.

Responding to the issues and demands of EC Dorjey Motup, Soharwarday assured to release Rs. 50 lacs immediately for construction of office building for KVIB if LAHDC,  Leh will allot land for the same purpose at the earliest. And regarding clearance of back-log cases and increasing the loan targets for Leh district, Soharwarday assured to allot unlimited targets for Ladakh region and appealed youths of Ladakh to avail maximum benefits from the different schemes of KVIB and KVIC.

Earlier, addressing the function, EC Dorjey Motup raised the issues of KVIB and KVIC functioning in Leh in detail and assured to allot land for construction of KVIB & KVIC office building at Leh to streamline the programs of this two important institutions. He also requested to increase the loan targets for Leh district to cover more rural unemployed youths into entrepreneurship.

Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat Member North Zone KVIC and Secretary/ CEO KVIB Raashid Ahmad Qadari also addressed the program and explained in detail about the various loan and subsidy schemes of KVIB and KVIC. They said the main function of both the institutions is to plan, promote, organize and implement the programs for the development of Khadi and other village industries in the rural areas in coordination with other agencies.

Earlier, Vice Chairmen along with other guests made a full round of the stalls and while interacting with the entrepreneurs they encouraged them for further improvements in their products.

A traditional cultural program by the artists of CATS group was also presented on the occasion.
