Srinagar: Chief Secretary (CS),  B. B. Vyas Tuesday launched ERO-NET a web-based app for online registration of voters. With the facility the voters can register themselves online and can also get the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) online.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K  Shaleen Kabra, , Director, ICT, (ECI) Dr. Kushal Pathak, District Election Officers, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, besides  Deputy District Election Officers across the state were present during the ERO-Net launching ceremony.

Highlighting the importance of technology,  Vyas said the ERO-NET facility will ease out the process of registration of new eligible electorates. He said it would also enable addition and deletion of voters, minimize duplicity, improve efficacy, and allow transfer names of voters to another constituency. He said Election Commission of India has adopted various measures to provide error-free electoral rolls and to bring transparency in election process. He said in Tuesday’s world everything is digitized and most of our work is done through online mode, adding the launch of app facility is a step in the direction to make the election related process more transparent, error-free and prompt.

Complimenting the CEO and Director ICT on the occasion  of launching the app in State, the CS called for initiating awareness campaign across the State to sensitize the representatives of political parties and stakeholders about the use of app so that most people can avail the facility.

Some related forms would be made available through the app, besides people can also call on a toll-free number 1950 to get their queries clarified.

Meanwhile, on the second day of training program, Director, ICT imparted training of working on the app through Power Point Presentation. He explained about various aspects of ERO-NET, National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP), role and responsibilities of National Contact Centre, State Contact centre and District Contact Centres.
