Meerut: Targeting the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati today asserted that the current scenario in the nation was worse than even Emergency. Addressing a public gathering here after her resignation from the Rajya Sabha, she alleged that the Central Bureau of Investigation, Enforcement Directorate and other agencies were targeting leaders of opposition parties on the orders from the Centre. Ms Mayawati said that some political parties tried to derive political mileage from the Saharanpur riots and alleged that it was the Bharatiya Janata Party which had masterminded the violence.

‘In Rajya Sabha, I was not allowed to speak about Dalit atrocities in Saharanpur, so I resigned,’ she asserted. Ms Mayawati alleged that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)were tampered by the BJP in the recent state assembly elections and asserted this reason behind her party’s defeat in polls. ‘Our party took the EVM issue to the apex court’, she affirmed. Slamming BJP as an anti-reservation party, Ms Mayawati asserted that quota in promotions in public sector was still pending in Parliament. She even demanded quota in private sector. Praising the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the BSP supremo said that he always worked for upliftment of socially backward classes. ‘Dr Ambedkar even placed Other Backward Classes under section 340 of our Constitution,’ she affirmed. Ms Mayawati also hit out at the Centre on the farmers issue.’BJP had promised loan waiver of Rs one lakh for farmers but the Yogi government waived off only Rs one and two, ‘ she added.
