They were produced in a court in Delhi that remanded them to NIA custody till September 16.
Both the youth were arrested for allegedly participating and organizing stone-pelting protests.
Press Council of India has called upon the authorities to reply to its notice after taking cognizance of Yousuf’s arrest under Regulation 13 of the Press Council (procedure for inquiry) Regulation, 1979.
“The Press Council of India has viewed the incident (arrest of Kamran Yousuf) with concern and taken the suo moto cognisance of the matter under Regulation 13 of the Press Council (procedure for inquiry) Regulation, 1979,” said the notice.
Kashmir Editors Guild has also expressed concern over Yousuf’s arrest and demanded his “immediate release”.
A KEG spokesman said that National Investigating Agency (NIA) has arrested Yusuf “without spelling out the reasons and that doesn’t gel with the set legal norms prevalent in any democratic setup.”
