Estimates Committee asks police to provide bullet proof vehicles to legislators

Srinagar: A meeting of the Committee on Estimates of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held here Thursday under the Chairmanship of MLA Mohammad Ashraf Mir to review the overall functioning of Home Department and its allied wings.
Legislators Mubarak Gul, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Choudhary Sukhnandan Kumar, Altaf Ahmed Wani, R S Pathania, Yawar Ahmed Mir and Dr. Shehnaz Ganai attended the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions to make the working of Police department more effective and transparent.
The Committee discussed the status of total number of government accommodations allotted to political people on security related grounds and details of such allottees in J&K. Besides, issue of providing security vehicles to various political parties and their organizational functionaries and the secessionist/mainstream leaders who do not hold any constitutional/statutory/honorary post with the Union government or the state government was also discussed.
The Committee directed the concerned authorities to take all necessary steps to provide bullet proof (BP) and other suitable vehicles to the legislators as per the requirement during their visit to various areas in the State and for the tours the law makers do in their constituencies.
The Committee directed the concerned authorities to clear all cases of SRO-43 laying pending in the department by removing all bottlenecks in this regard and stressed on concerned authorities to provide a job of SPO under SRO-43 to the next of kin who have died while delivering their duties.
The Committee directed the concerned authorities that the transfer policy of the police department should be reviewed and every employee should be transferred after three years. It was also directed the concerned authorities to provide physical fitness trainers and councilors for juvenile homes in the State so that they could help the children there.
The Committee also discussed other issues including procedures of recruitment of SPOs, modernization of police stations, opening of new police stations, status of cases under PSA, working of traffic police especially on national highway, what action taken on those who create fake accounts on facebook, auction process of old vehicles and proper utilization of funds of the department.
Principal Secretary, Home Department R K Goel briefed the Committee about the functioning of the police department and the steps have been taken by the department to further strengthen the working of the department.
He assured the Committee that all necessary steps will be taken to provide the adequate number of the bullet proof and other vehicles to the legislators as early as possible
Special DG, Headquarters, V K Singh also briefed the Committee about the functioning of the department and said the department has set up two drug addiction centres at Jammu and Srinagar with adequate facilities.
Among others, DGP, SP Vaid, IG, Kashmir Zone, Muneer Ahmed Khan, IGP personnel PHQ, JP Singh, IGP Crime, Alok Puri, IGP Security, Alok Kumar, IGP Railways, Mubarak A Ganai, IGP PHQs Surinder Kumar, IG Traffic J&K Jagjit Kumar, Secretary, Legislative Assembly M R Singh, Director Finance, Additional Secretary, Home, other senior officers of Police and Assembly Secretariat were present in the meeting.
