Srinagar: Only light vehicles are allowed from both sides on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the valley.
No heavy vehicle will be allowed from any side on the highway, a traffic police official said.
Heavy vehicle traffic will be allowed only after receiving green signal from officials posted at different places on the highway.
However, light vehicles were plying from both sides Wednesday, he said.
He said traffic was resumed on the highway last evening after remaining suspended since September 12 due to landslide, triggered by heavy rain.
However, only stranded vehicles from both sides were allowed to move towards their respective destinations till late last night.
Traffic was suspended since September 12 evening on 300-km-long national Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to a big landslide, triggered by rain at Marog in Ramban in Jammu region.
However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, put into service sophisticated machines and men and put through the highway again.
Meanwhile, light vehicular traffic plied on both the sides on historic 86-km-long Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, which has been seen as alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. “However, heavy vehicles were also plied from Shopian to Rajouri-Poonch on the road Tuesday this week,” they added.
He said the traffic on Srinagar-Leh national highway, which connects Ladakh region with rest of the state, was also plying normally.
