Rajouri: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary Wednesday felicitated a group of girl sportspersons for showing outstanding performance at state and national level competitions of martial arts here at a function organized by United Martial Arts Club Rajouri.
The United Martial Art Club Rajouri has been adopted by the district administration under flagship program Beti Bachao Beti Padao (BBBP).
On the occasion, coach UMACR Yasmeen Kouser apprised the DDC that the UMACR sportspersons brought laurels for the district by winning one gold medal, two silver and two bronze medals at the National Kickboxing Championship held at Talkatora Stadium Delhi.
She further informed that these they also exhibited outstanding performances at state level championship and bagged two silver and four bronze medals.
Dr. Shahid, while interacting with students, said the district administration is making concerted efforts towards women empowerment and learning self defense by girls is first step towards this goal. He commended all the sportspersons for performing exceptionally well in various competitions of martial arts. He also emphasized that girls from all over the district especially rural pockets should take part in self defense training programs.
Dr. Shahid also informed that the district administration is coming up with a universal one stop center for all women related issues, grievances and needs within a couple of months.
Later he distributed medals, citations and mementoes among the winner sportspersons.
Also present on the occasion were SSP Yougal Manhas, ACR Abdul Qayoom Mir, DSWO Abdul Khabir, Deputy Registrar Cooperatives Waqar Talib, other district officers and parents of the students.
