Jammu: Chairperson, J&K State Social Welfare Board Dr (Prof) Nirmal Gupta Tuesday visited District Jail Amphalla to meet the female inmates and know about their condition.

Accompanied by Executive Director/Secretary JKSSWB, Shahid Mahmood, Dr Nirmal interacted with the female inmates and inquired about the treatment being meted out to them. She also asked them of any special help they require from J&K State Social Welfare Board in the form of specialized training particularly in cutting and tailoring, embroidery works etc.

The Chairperson also inspected the workshop of the Jail where inmates prepare various handicrafts items, furniture etc.

The Chairperson held a detailed discussion with life convict and under-trials and advised them to keep themselves busy by actively participating in manufacturing of articles, hand embroidery, crafts etc. “This will not only keep you busy  but also enhance their economic status” Dr Nirmal told them.

Later, the Chairperson had a brief meeting with Jail authorities and discussed rehabilitative measures for the inmates and the role of J&K State Social Welfare Board in this regard.

She informed that soon an NGO, a trainer and a psychologist  will be deputed for imparting training in different skills, yoga and counseling of the inmates.

Earlier, the chairperson was received by the Senior Superintendent Javid Fazili.

Senior Superintendent and Principal Jail Institute welcomed the decisions taken and thanked the Chairperson for her visit to the Jail.
