Srinagar/Sept,9: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Muneer Khan on Saturday said that separatist leaders were detained as “they were mobilizing people to create law and order problem” in Srinagar.
While Syed Ali Geelani continues to be under house arrest, Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were detained late last night.
Mirwaiz was placed under house detention and Malik was arrested and lodged in central jail Srinagar.
“The people were being mobilized by the separatist leaders for a rally which would have created law and order problem and disturbed normal life and peace in Srinagar. To maintain peace and law and order, we have put the separatists under detention,” Muneer Khan told KNS news agency.
Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik were scheduled to fly to New Delhi today to stage a protest outside headquarter of National Investigation Agency in Delhi and court arrest there to demonstrate against the raids of the central probe agency on Hurriyat leaders and businessmen.
“Had they moved like normal passengers, we would have no problem in allowing them to go wherever they wanted to go. But we cannot allow anyone to disturb law and order and peace in the state,” said Khan.
