Srinagar: The fresh spree of violence which began in August wrought on the Rohingya Muslims at the hands of the Buddhist extremists riding on the support of Government forces has claimed thousands of innocent lives including women and children. According to rough estimates, over one lakh Rohingya Muslims have fled to the shores of Bangladesh and other neighbouring counties to escape the violence.
To express solidarity with these people and protest the atrocities they have been facing for long now, International Muslim Unity Council’s (IMUC) J&K chapter organized a protest march to register dismay over the silence of the so called human rights bodies. Soon after Friday prayers hundreds of youth assembled at historic Lal Chowk and chanted slogans against what they termed as the state sponsored terrorism on a religious minority in Myanmar.
On the occasion IMUC general secretary Javaid Abbas Rizvi talking to media persons said, “The Silence of the world leaders and human rights organisations is criminal at this crucial juncture. The world can’t afford to see thousands of innocents being killed for no sin of their’s. The Rohingya Muslims are suffering the catastrophic terrorism just because the Muslim majority countries remain ridden with internal strife. Had they been on the same page with regard to pressing for solutions like Myanmar, Kashmir and Palestine etc, things wouldn’t have come to such a pass.” Javaid Abbas Rizvi also held Israel responsible for the spread of terror around the world.
He further remarked, “The Aung San Suu Kyi led government in Myanmar has strong military ties with Israel. Israel continues to sell weapons to Myanmar and is thus one way or the other a part of the tragedies taking place around the world.” IMUC gen secretary impressed upon the Muslim countries in particular to join hands and chalk out a joint strategy to put an end to the plight of innocent Rohingya Muslims. The protesters termed the Rohingya issue as a big challenge for the character of Muslims.
