Kulgam: District Magistrate Kulgam, Talat Parvez Friday ordered ban on illegal extraction of sand, gravel and boulders from Vishow Nallah and its Tributaries in the district.
The DM said due to illegal extraction of material not only the Government is losing revenue but the protection bunds on the Nallah and its tributaries also get damaged resulting in change of course during heavy rainfall, affecting aquatic biodiversity and putting the inhabitants of catchment areas to risk.
He said legal action would be taken against violators involved in the illegal material extraction.
