Nirmal Gupta chairs meeting of delegates from corporate sector

Jammu: Chairperson J&K Social Welfare Board, Prof. Nirmal Gupta Thursday chaired a meeting of delegates from corporate sector to assess the benefits being provided to the weaker section of the society under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The Chairperson while addressing the meeting sought the support of the delegation for the uplift and welfare of the downtrodden, backward and neglected people of the state, besides empowerment of women.

Prof Nirmal Gupta informed the meeting about various programs run by the board which includes Rajiv Gandhi, National Crèche Scheme, Family Counselling Centre, Swadhar Greh etc.

She said crèche and day care services are provided to the children belonging to poor families, who require support and relief for childcare. In these Crèches children in the age group of 0-6 years are provided supplementary nutrition and pre-primary education through play-way method. She informed that the Union Ministry has enhanced the annual budget of per Crèche centre from Rs. 42,384 to Rs. 1,51,600.

The Chairperson also said the Board is running 26 centralized and 4 de-centralized counseling centers to provide counseling to women to sort out their family disputes. She maintained that NGOs/voluntary organizations provide Rs. 3.20 lakh per annum for setting up of the Family Counselling Centres.

She said the Board is presently running four Swadhar Grehin homes in the State for deserted, natural disasters survivors, homeless and domestic violence effected women. She further said functioning of these Grehs are monitored by district administration under the guidance of the Board.

The delegation from the Corporate Sector threw light on various formalities to be met while submitting the proposal to the company under CSR. They further stressed upon specific activities under which their organization prefer to fund the CSR programs.

The Executive Director/ Secretary J&K State Social Welfare Board, Shahid Mahmood highlighted the functioning of the Board.

The meeting was attended by functionaries of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Power Grid Corporation of India, Rural Electrification Corporation, renowned social worker, Meera Khanna, and representatives of various NGOs and staff of the Board.
