Shopian: The 18th District Sqay Martial Arts championship 2017 was inaugurated by MLA Shopian Mohamad Yousuf Bhat and MLA Wachi Aijaz Ahmad Mir in presence of District Development Commissioner Shopian and Senior Superintendent of Shopian at Sports Stadium Shopian.
On this occasion MLAs announced grant of Rs 4 lakh for purchasing sports kits and other items for the players.
The event saw large participation of male and female players from all over district. The function has now become an annual affair and has helped the Sqay to grow as sports in the District.
Organisers said the platform will help players to get ready for participation at the national and international events organized in high altitude low temperate zones.
The participants told that coaching helps players to achieve better results and helps them to perform better at national and international level. JK state has been completely dominating at national championship and has got most medals.
